The Day Become Veteran

" Recruit, what is your first general order?"

" Recruit, what is your name?"

" Recruit, what the hell are you doing here? Push up positions!"

Yesterday, I have a dream. The dream is about the Navy Bootcamp training. It has been a long time already since 09/14/2007.

Somehow, I still don't believe the time goes by really fast. The five years service feels like yesterday. I did remember when I was signed up the contract, I was still the high school student. I never imagined that I would join the US Navy before.

During the navy service, I did learn a lot of lesson in my life. For example, how to make a perfect team work, education, leadership, mental training, and etc. I did appreciate that I joined military service when I was young.

Now I became the veteran for almost 2 months already. The reason I decide to get out of Navy because I find out something that I really want to do. Be honestly, I did not like deploy too much. I always missing home when I was out of sea.  Homesick is probably the most illness in the world. Although you think your parents are annoying, once you deploy, you are pretty missing these moments. You don't know why you feel sad, why you are not happy, and why you are lost control- because this is homesick.

To be continued..........

VA Disability compensation is raising by 1.7%

Recently, I read a lot of articles from DAV(Disable American Veteran), VA(Veteran Affairs) and the latest Navy times about the disability compensation is raising by 1.7%. That is a really good news for all veterans who get service connected disability.

Since I see so many people are discussing on Facebook Page and different forums, I can hear a lot of voice from different sides. For example, the veterans(including myself) and active duty members are really happy for this news. As a result, people keep re-posting and leave a happy comment on there page. On the other hand, I heard a different voices beside veterans and active duty members. Some of them are discussing why veterans are receiving free money after they separated from service. Some of them are jealous, and keep leaving a bad comment for some service members and veterans.

From my point of view,  these groups of people ( I would rather say might be anti-military, or civilians) never understand why veteran receive these kinds of benefits from Veteran Affairs. In their mind, they believe the money is "free" for us. Unfortunately, they are probably never know the price we have been paid for it. First of all, all veterans know that we have the physical examine before we join the military. The doctor will be determined that we are 100% healthy before we are enrolling the training and mission. Somehow, we still have some unexpectedness accidents during the service periods. For example, the military is always deployed in different locations. We are facing the different missions and trying to accomplish before we go home.we don't have too much time to be with family, beside we just watching the playback video, pictures, and barely to make phone call to family during the deployment. As a result, the mental stress will be increasing day by day, and eventually cause insomnia, and etc. That is what happen to me when I am on deployments, and I have to reply some medications to force myself to sleep better. This is only a part of examples

After a member is separated from military, we will refer to Veteran Affairs to determine the disability claims and physical examine. The VA will be based on the claims and refer the member to go to the VA facility to finish the examine. Believe or not, so many veterans just find out their problems during the VA process. For example, I find out my right elbow is getting worse after the MRI examine in VA. According to the VA rep, the federal government requires taking care of all the veterans after they are separated from military service. And that is why all veterans will be receiving the money from VA. We are not actually receiving the "free" money. We do pay for it during the service.
